Plastic Name Tag Holders

A lanyard, like one of our anti-microbial, anti-twist lanyards, does not work alone. Just the lanyard provides little value; it must contain some sort of plastic name tag holder to get the job done.

Without a plastic name tag holder, a lanyard is just a piece of jewelry. The name tag holder contains the name tag or ID badge, and in some cases, other important credentials like additional certifications and ID cards. Some employees might also use them to carry documentation or cash - in short, they provide a lot of value.

However, not all plastic name badge holders are created equal, but the name badge holders that we sell here at Imprint Plus are engineered for superior performance.

The Problem with PVC

Despite the fact that PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, has been termed “the poison plastic” it is still prevalent in consumer and commercial goods. In this specific instance, it has been commonly used to produce the plastic name tag holders that are frequently paired with lanyards.

PVC causes significant environmental harm when it is disposed of as refuse, but it is also damaging during production and in other areas as well. This is partly due to the fact that PVC contains chlorine, which is a toxic (albeit natural) element that is critical to the formation of many harmful pollutants.

For example, chlorine is central to the formation of chlorofluorocarbons (or CFCS) which are extremely damaging to the atmosphere and when present in the upper atmosphere are implicated in the disintegration of the ozone layer that helps to prevent excess UV radiation from reaching the surface of the earth.

When chlorine bearing compounds, such as PVC, are produced, dioxin is often released as a byproduct. Dioxin is responsible for a disturbing number of health effects, and is so toxic that there is no level of exposure to the toxin whatsoever that is considered safe. This is concerning, considering that many other toxins may be present in the environment at “acceptable levels.”

PVC is also a large contributor to the world’s burgeoning plastic crisis, and present in unnaturally high levels throughout the world, especially in waterways and in the world’s oceans. It has also been suggested that as PVC breaks down, which takes a long time, additional harmful compounds are released.

To add to this issue, there are a large number of adverse health effects that are linked to the buildup of chlorinated toxins in the human body. PVC may produce a serviceable material that has practical uses, but it was time for a change in plastic name tag holders, and we created a better alternative.

How Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) Helps

Instead of being made from PVC, the plastic name tag holders that are compatible with our lanyards are made from EVA, or ethyl vinyl acetate. For its part, EVA is considered one of the least environmentally harmful plastics.

Not only does EVA lack the CFCs that are associated with the production of PVC, but EVA is even less harmful when it is burned - it is possible for EVA to combust in the presence of adequate oxygen and reduce to nothing more harmful than CO2 and water. While CO2 is a greenhouse gas, this alone is a significant improvement over the known harmful effects of PVC and its by-products. Additionally, our plastic name badge holders are free of BPA and phthalates, making them even less environmentally harmful.

In addition to being less environmentally harmful, our EVA ID badge holders offer excellent performance in other ways as well. Our EVA ID card holders offer superior flexibility and excellent clarity, resisting the absorption of inks that may be printed onto the surface of an ID card or badge. They are also sealable and water-resistant.

If you’re looking for a collection of plastic name tag holders that offer good durability, clarity and performance, can be mounted to ID badge reels or lanyards in either a vertical or horizontal configuration, and may be more environmentally friendly, then our badge holders are the ideal fit. You can learn more about them at the previous link - but if you have any additional questions, please get in touch with us at 800-563-2464 and let us see how we can help.

Don’t Miss Our Other Options

While we are proud of our EVA alternatives to PVC badge holders, we recognize that not all clients have the same needs. In addition to these badge holders, we also carry several different fasteners for name badges and name tags, including classic pin fasteners and magnetic fasteners that use powerful rare earth magnets. We also carry wall mount plates and name desk stands, for those who are looking for a different kind of plastic name holder.

Contact us at the number listed above if you have any questions about our badge holders. We would be glad to assist in any way possible.
